Effect of Wastewater Effluent on the Water Quality of the John Wild River, Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve

Period of Project:  2002 - 2004

Chief:  Timothy P. Brabets

Location:  Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve

Purpose:

This study will increase the knowledge of arctic hydrology by gaining an understanding of the impacts of nutrient loading on the John River from the effluent of a recently constructed wastewater treatment plant at Anaktuvuk Pass. Findings of this study will provide the information needed to design a long-term monitoring plan to ensure protection of the village aquifer and John River.
